Entertaining outside will become easier because your fish pond will be a terrific focal point when hosting the annual barbecue.
Building a pond requires careful planning. It takes time and effort. Consider the whole of your garden before your start and chose a spot where you feel the pond would be best situated and mark the area with some old rope or hose, leave it a few days to ensure that you don't change your mind as digging a hole is hard graft and you won't want to do it twice!
When choosing a permanent spot for your pond remember that it can affect the overall look of your garden. Location should be the most appropriate avoiding trees and also low ground levels to avoid the problems of flooding and debris
Deciduous trees shed leaves almost everyday and so they can instantly pollute the pond if you don’t remove this tree debris . You also have to determine the size of the pond and it should be proportional to the garden’s size. You can also choose from many different shapes for the pond like rectangular, oval, square, etc. One again using a hose to mark out the shape will help. Keep It simple as complicated shapes can be harder to care for as you may have areas of still water that you will find hard to oxygenate. Often, the size and shape of the pond will depend on the kind of fish and water plants that you plan to put in it.
The pond should also be placed in a location where there is direct sunlight so that the plants and fishes are kept healthy. However in the heat of the summer you may need extra shade or surface loving plants to keep the water healthy and prevent the growth of harmful algae
So you see, there are various factors you need to consider when building a pond. Building it is only the start as you will need to regularly maintain it to keep it in tip top condition. Maintenance will be most intensive in the beginning as it will take a while for the pond to find it's natural levels. You will need to take care of regular cleaning and also feeding of the fish. The main aim is to have beautiful healthy fish and crystal clear water by taking proper care of your pond you will achieve this sooner than you think!
